Press meet

Tamil associations urge Tamil Nadu Government to pass a resolution seeking official status for Tamil in the Indian Union:

The Press Meet will be held on 20.09.2013 at Chepauk, Chennai at 4pm Madras Time.

Recently Hon Member of Parliament Mr. Tarun Vijay from Uttarakhand demanded Tamil be made a second official language of India there by giving Tamil it's respect and recognition that it deserves. It's over six decades since India's independence and a regional language like Hindi is chosen as the Indian Union's official language. It not only gives an unfair advantage to a section of people but is also imposed on non native Hindi speakers. It must be noted that India is home to two completely different linguistic groups and Tamil is perhaps the only language which has very little or no similarities to other Indian languages. Classical Tamil is one of the oldest languages in the world and it certainly deserves the same position as that of Hindi in modern India. While thanking the Uttarakhand MP Mr. Tarun Vijay for raising this demand, we urge the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to pass a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly demanding Tamil as an official language of the Indian Union. The long desire of the Tamil speaking Indians will then be fulfilled. This is being supported by various Tamil parties and associations. So far the following have extended their support and expressed similar views:

 Tamizhar Yezhuchchi Iyakkam (Velumani)
